The Mystery of Figure is the second of three exhibitions at Plato Sanat, which investigate current tendencies in the fields of abstract art, figurative art, and research based art. Artists’ Film International 2016 EventsThursday, September 29, 18.30Istanbul Modern, Multipurpose HallIstanbul Modern is hosting the Artists’ Film International in its Pop-Up Exhibition Area. A program focusing on the moving image, Artists’ Film International brings videos, animations, and short films by artists from around the world to Istanbul. On the theme of “technology”, the 2016 exhibition features 13 artists from different countries, including Zeyno Pekünlü from Turkey with her video collage “How to properly touch a girl so you don’t creep her out?”. In parallel to the exhibition, five videos produced by Pekünlü between 2012-2015 will be screened in the Multipurpose Hall next to the exhibition area. Following the screening, the artist and the exhibition curator will be present for the Q & A with the audience.The event is free of charge. All videos have English subtitles.

The S|2 Gallery is proud to present new works by internationally renowned photo-realist artist, Taner Ceylan. Drawing upon hyper-realistic techniques, Ceylan’s works are often political in their nature, predominantly addressing themes of sexuality in his homeland of Turkey. The works in this exhibition draw their influence from the 17th-century artist Pedro de Mana’s wooden sculpture, Christ as the Man of Sorrows, and are executed with the intricate skill that befits one of the most important Turkish artists working today.

Dirimart is proud to present Peter Zimmermann’s third solo show titled CMYK in Istanbul. The show can be visited from December 24, 2015 through January 30, 2016.In his latest body of work, Zimmermann works with the method of color separation, which the title of the exhibition CMYK adopts. CMYK, refers to four inks, cyan, magenta, yellow and key(black) used in color printing. This color model works by partially or entirely masking colors ona lighter, such as white, background where the ink is used to subtract the brightness from the base in order to prevent reflection. As if duplicating his process of alienating context throughthe choice of digitally disrupted images, the artist, by referencing the subtractive color model, adds another level of removal from the original pictorial sources. Zimmermann, by reducing the primary colors from their original colors, directs the viewer for a new way of translation andinterpretation in his recent paintings.

This is Not a Music Video is a screening program presented as part of the exhibition This is Not a Love Song: Video Art and Pop Music Crossovers. The program explores the links between music videos and the recording industry with works by contemporary artists who have appropriated the aesthetics of the music video and have been deconstructing such imagery since the 1980s. The artist, who employs art as a means of propaganda under the alias Nesren Jake, meets spectators at his third solo exhibition, Boss Has Gone Mad, displayed at Daire Gallery between 5 December 2015 and 9 January 2016.Nesren Jake focuses his production upon the critique of consumer culture. His primary focus consists of sale strategies, advertisement campaigns and big brands. Through his work, he confronts us with a different façade of the brands that dazzle us with their sponsorship of grand-scale organisations. In his works, the conditions of living, clothing and the sustenance of the construction workers in Qatar, who is hosting the World Cup in 2020 features on the background of the brands sponsoring the event.
