Chinese artist O Zhang who works mainly on photography and mixed media is presenting her series titled “I am Your Mirror”, that she took during her road trips in the United States in a car that her husband, Peter Garfield was driving. Her second solo show at Dirimart, “I Am Your Mirror, No.1” can be seen for the first time in Turkey between April 14 - May 9.
The empty billboards and all the destroyed or non-existing images around the country brings up a question of the notion of advertising which could not be imagined in China outside of a goal for communist propaganda. The blank images presented in her works open up questions of economical severities as well as spaces of possibilities to discuss expectation. The title “I Am Your Mirror” obviously suggests a reflection of the American nation. Apart from these framed exposures, also a collage by the artist can be seen in the exhibition. The collage consists of wrinkled images, which give the feeling of having been crumpled up like trash before and the way they are brought up together suggests a variety of possibilities for the future of the United States.
