As a gift for April 23, National Independence and Children’s Day, Istanbul Modern offers children a program titled “Inspiration Box”, conceived for 4-12 year-olds. Children can participate in the program between April 20 and 25.
“Inspiration Box” is an educational program in which children draw inspiration from works of art to produce creative ideas for the future. In the program, which takes as its starting point the origin of the word “museum”, i.e. the idea of “the home of the Muses”, the children seek their muses in the exhibition halls of Istanbul Modern: they examine the works of art, identify the images that impress them, and, drawing inspiration from these works, imagine a beautiful future for themselves and all the children of the world.
The program begins with a brief conversation on the idea of a “beautiful future”, after which a fun adventure full of riddles awaits the children. Based on the riddles that the museum experts read to them, the children identify the work of art they think is related to the riddle. After examining these works of art, they complete their tour by collecting images designed based on these works and given to them by the museum experts. In the second stage of the program, the children transform the inspiration boxes given them into works of art. They draw and do colorings on the images they collected during the exhibition tour, create compositions on a surface of paper, and place their work inside their boxes. The children complete the program by also coloring the outer surfaces of the inspiration boxes, and leave the museum with this beautiful souvenir, which they can hang in their rooms.
